NHS Strikes in Wigan

Support staff at the three hospitals in Wigan borough are on strike this Wednesday and this Thursday, and we’re urging all supporters to visit their picket lines whenever you can during that time. The strike is against the transfer of hundreds of staff to a “subsidiary company” which can attack their terms & conditions of employment, pensions, etc. It’s a big step towards privatisation which is being tried, and resisted, elsewhere. Let’s give maximum support to it being resisted in Wigan too!
So on both Weds and Thurs from there are pickets at the following five locations:
Royal Albert Edward Infirmary, Wigan Lane, WN1 2NN. 6am to 10pm
Wrightington Hospital, Hall Lane, WN6 9EP. 6am to 10pm
Leigh Infirmary, The Avenue, WN7 1HS. 6am to 7pm
Thomas Linacre Outpatient Centre, Parsons Walk WN1 1RU. 3pm to 6pm
Buckingham Row, Brick Kiln Lane, WN1 1XX. 7am to 9am.

Please visit pickets at whatever time is convenient for you, as per the above times. A group of us will be visiting the Royal Albert at 9am on Wednesday, by all means join us there and then if you’d like to do so, and we’ll be doing a campaign stall in the town centre later in the morning.

If you’ve any questions, please do ask. Statements from both unions involved are here, http://www.unisonnw.org/hospital_staff_to_strike_on_23_24_may and http://www.unitetheunion.org/news/nhs-staff-set-to-strike-over-outsourcing-plans/
