Stop local hospital downgrades – campaign calls action conference
Local campaign group Greater Manchester Keep Our NHS Public has called an action conference to fight the ‘Healthier Together’ decision to strip emergency surgery from Wythenshawe, Tameside, Wigan, Bolton, Bury Fairfield and North Manchester hospitals.
Under Healthier Together, the directors promised that “No hospitals will be closed, no hospitals will be downgraded, no hospitals will lose their A&E”.
They promised that HT could not possibly lead to those thing happening. That it is all about clinical standards, nothing else, no wider plan, no cuts.
At some point, staff and patients and local politicians alike will realise that we are being lied to.
This will be an action conference discussing practical campaigning against the ‘Healthier Together’ plans to downgrade 6 general hospitals across Gtr Mcr – Bury, Bolton, Wigan, North Manchester, Wythenshawe, and Tameside.
It will follow a week of action outside the Tory Party conference 3rd – 7th Oct which will include a Rally & Protest: NHS Not For Sale @ Central Hall, 11:30am – A public meeting followed by a ‘Wall of Sound’ sirens protest outside the Tory Conference. http://www.thepeoplesassembly.org.uk/manctimetable
Campaigners and concerned residents from across Greater Manchester will be getting together with students and the medical professionals of the future to fight the disgraceful decision to downgrade half a dozen district general hospitals across Greater Manchester.
The badly misnamed ‘Healthier Together’ means moving lifesaving services further away from hundreds of thousands of people, putting a question over the continuation of A&Es and maternity services at Wythenshawe, Tameside, Wigan, Bolton, Bury Fairfield and North Manchester, and adding to the overstretch of healthcare across Greater Manchester.
Our action conference will start convening the resistance to these cost-driven cuts. Healthier Together was dead in the water after only 1% of adults in Greater Manchester took part in its so-called consultation last year. Now it has been resurrected by an unholy alliance of Tory government ministers and local Labour politicians under the false flag of the bogus devolution ‘Devo Manc’ project, which the public haven’t even been offered a vote on.
Called under the headline ‘Getting Together Against Healthier Together,’ the conference is co-hosted by student campaign group ‘Save Our NHS’ and is being held on Saturday 10 October, 10am-1pm, at the University of Manchester Student union, Oxford Road, M13 9PR.
