Devolution – The End of the NHS ?

Devolution of Health and Social Care to UK Cities: The end of the ‘National’ Health Service?

Thursday, June 25, 2015 from 5:30 PM – 7:30 PM

The Institute for Health and Wellbeing at Leeds Beckett University present a guest lecture and panel discussion:
Devolution of Health and Social Care to UK Cities: The end of the ‘National’ Health Service?
Join us to hear from experts and discuss one of the biggest policy areas currently facing health and social care in England.
With the recent announcement that Greater Manchester is to control its entire £6bn health and social care budget, and the ‘Northern Powerhouse’ at the forefront of government policy, this guest lecture and panel discussion provides an opportunity to get under the skin of what may be next for devolution in health and social care. You will hear from four of the leaders who are at the forefront of thinking and action on the devolution agenda, with first hand insight from local, national and academic perspectives.
Professor Judith Smith, formerly Director of Policy at Nuffield Trust and newly appointed Director of the Health Services Management Centre at the University of Birmingham will provide a context and analysis of what devolution could mean for health and social care. This will be followed by an overview of the progress and plans in Greater Manchester from Strategic Director Warren Heppolette. Reflections and implications from local and national perspectives will then be provided by Tom Riordan and Professor Rob Webster, followed by a question and answer panel session.
This is one of the first opportunities for a public event with a range of experts who are working closely in an area which looks set to be a dominant topic over the course of the next few years for health and social care. The event is sure to be well attended so book now to be sure of your place.
Arrival is from 5.30pm, with the first talk starting at 6pm.
